Alice knows she should be happy.
After all, she has a handsome husband, a beautiful house and membership of all the most exclusive clubs in London. So what if the rumours about her husband's skirt-chasing are becoming harder to ignore? So what if she's had to try and forget her dreams of a thatched cottage in the Cotswolds, of a quiet country life surrounded by children and animals? To most people her life looks like a dream come true anyway.

Even so, when Joe's indiscretions force a transfer to New York, Alice hopes it might be a chance for a fresh start. And when they find a beautiful old house in Connecticut, Alice is overjoyed - for a while she and Joe seem to be as happy as newlyweds. But then the late nights and unexplained absences start again, and Alice discovers that the demure surface of Connecticut life hides plenty of opportunities for illicit sex.

What should Alice do? She loves her gorgeous home in New England and Joe is still everything she wants: handsome, successful and kind. But he seems hopelessly unfaithful. Should she stay and fight for him, or leave with her head held high and find a new life?

I've read a couple of Jane Green's books before, Bookends and Straight Talking, and really enjoyed them. Having read the back of the book I'm not entirely certain this trend will continue, but I'm willing to give it a go. Alice should leave, clearly...and I'm not sure I need to read an entire 450 page book to make up my mind. Jane Green is one of the few writers whose dialogue makes me chuckle out loud, and so I'll probably read this...and maybe even like it!
