'It was tiring, physically and mentally, but never dull. Three movies, one big story, and so much variety: one day shooting scenes of intimate, heart-wrenching drama, the next, vast battle scenes involving hundreds of extras. Every day brought an opportunity to create something new on this enormous canvas that is The Lord of the Rings.'
Peter Jackson

The Lord of the Rings: The Making of the Movie Trilogy is the definitive behind-the-scenes account of the creation of an epic film trilogy. Hailed by critics worldwide, part one of the trilogy has been one of the most successful films of the decade, breaking box-office records around the world and receiving four Golden Globe, eleven BAFTA and thirteen Academy Award nominations.

Lavishly illustrated with more than 300 photos from all three films, many unique to this book, together with exclusive interview with all the principle cast and crew, Brian Sibley's fascinating book takes the reader inside the process of adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's masterwork for the screen.

The Lord of the Rings: The Making of the Movie Trilogy reveals in words and pictures exactly how the magic was made: from the direction, scripting and acting, to creating the sets, landscapes, makeup, wardrobe, miniatures, music and special effects. Written in an entertaining and informal style, the in-depth text recounts the personal stories of the hundreds of talented artists, craftsmen and women, cast and crew members who worked for years - adding detail and authenticity at every stage - to bring one of the greatest stories ever told to glorious cinematic life.

The movies *gasp*! And so I am filled with a yearning to know everything about them. I'm tempted to save this book until after I've seen Return of the King, just in case there are any spoilers, but I really don't know if I'll have the self control. I can't wait to explore the book, and will no doubt enjoy every word. Brian Sibley is the man behind the BBC Radio adaptation of LotR, so he's clearly an authority on the subject, and probably a huge fan so he's about the best person to really ask the questions other fans want to know the answers to.
