Meet Jack

Jack Rossiter. I'm twenty-seven years old, single and live with my best mage, Matt. Matt and I started hanging out when we were eight. Life was simpler then. Our idea of fashion was polyester. I told him I wanted to be a spy and he asked me who I'd marry. I imagined falling in love with a girl so perfect I couldn't even guess her name. Things have changed since then. I did fall in love for a while but it didn't work out. And single is good, single is fun.

Meet Amy

Sometimes in my darker moments I've thought about applying to go on Blind Date. 'She's gorgeous, she's from London, come in Amy Crosbie!' (Wolf whistling and applause). Actually it's a bit of a worry. I think it's my warped way of telling myself something's got to change. It's been six months since I last had sex. Six months! I mean, I've got my own flat, I've got A levels - so come on down Mr Right. At least it would get my mother off my back.

This is a book I've borrowed from Sarah...and so more than the usual care must be taken with it. I don't think I've borrowed a book from my cousin since the now infamous 'Five Fall into Adventure' incident when we were 9. Maybe I've become more careful with books, because I have been entrusted with this volume...so no reading in the bath for me this time!

With Sarah and I we either totally love something, or one raves whilst the other looks on and feels slightly superior at the other's appalling taste. This, however, seems like it might be the former. It's a love story, but funny, written alternatively from the woman and the man's point of view. I read a book like it recently, Nice, and liked the idea (but didn't think much of the book). I have high expectations about this one, and I hope they pay off. I also hope I don't bend the cover and end up having to buy Sarah a new copy.

NB:  I just remembered I did borrow another book after 'Five Fall into Adventure'. I ended up ringing half the book shops in the city trying to find the now deleted, rare edition after my then boyfriend borrowed it (with Sarah's permission, though I vouched). You see, our record isn't good!
